Coleman Lantern worth repairing?
Question:
My Coleman lantern suddenly won’t hold pressure. Fuel seems to leak out around the pump handle – where you pump pressure into the lantern. It’s about 6 years old and not heavily used – about 3 times per year for weekend campouts. Should I get it repaired or just buy a new one! What’s the experience of any folks out there of folks who faced the same decision?

Coleman lanterns are easily repaired and the repair parts are inexpensive. You can probably repair it yourself if you have any mechanical skills at all. Elliot Richmond Freelance science writer and editor Austin, Texas
Response:
I’d try oiling the pump first. There is an oil hole at the base of the pump. Add a few drops of 3-in-one oil. If that doesn’t work replace the pump. I’ve had my lantern 18 years and it’s still going strong. Ron

Nickel plated tank? does sound cool…….isn’t it fun to use old stuff too? I have a big dome tent and lots of modern stuff, but some of the "old school" stuff is just plain more fun, I think.

If the pump has gone bad, it’s an easy fix, heck, even Wal Mart carries the pump repair kit and it’s cheap…….best of all it has very easy to follow instructions on the side, I know as I had to replace one recently. I have two old coleman lanterns, a 69 and a 72. I really enjoy bringing them out at the campsite and using them, they carry memories too
Have a great camping season, Michael
