which tent I should buy.

Question:

Shasha, For casual frontcountry camping I recommend the following: 1) rated for 1 person more than will usually be sleeping in it, 2) a ceiling high enough to sit up, 3) light enough that it will be useful for short backpacking trips if you split it into 2 parts (ie. versatile), 4) the best quality you can afford Woods tents are designed for "family camping" in close to ideal conditions and are fairly heavy. I wouldn’t recommend this tent unless you will probably not do much camping again. Moutain Equipment Co-op makes fairly good quality knockoffs that are generally designed for backcountry use in less than ideal conditions. They are great value. The North Face (TNF) makes what in my opinion are the best overall tents on the market, but you pay a premium for them. They will be light and small (for the person rating), but will keep you warm and dry in harsh conditions. I have used TNF tents for years in unbelievable conditions and they have never let me down. I can’t stress enough the value of spending an extra $100 now if you can at all afford it. Trust me, you will get it back and then some at the end of the day. Besides, a quality tent is somehow just more fun to sleep in. Have fun, Bill

Just one suggestion – you get what you pay for. If you are going to use the tent a little, a cheapie will do.  If you are going to use it a lot or want it to last a long time, get a brand name like Eureka, North Face, Kelty, etc. You did not mention how many people or how big you wanted, so can’t offer a price.  Buy bigger than you need, because the way they estimate, a 4 person tent can only hold four twelve year olds.
