Family Tent

Question:

This is odd for me to write, but a close friend and I have enjoyed many camping trips with our families with SEARS tents (I think they are called Hillary). To be more specific, it is their dome tent series that has worked so well.  (And not their cabin tents) Point is that if you look for them on sale, you don’t need to overspend for a quality family tent.  And to me that is part of the fun.

Response:

OK, since we’re admitting such things… I must rave about the tent I bought to replace the one the greyhound ate.  10×10, 6′ headroom, and incredibly easy to put up by myself; $80 at WalMart, dare I say it. Liz Dunbar Baltimore MD

Has anyone a recommendation for a 3 season 3-4 person tent with a cost of less than $250?

Response:

I like my Eureka Equidome6! Even though it’s rated for 6 it really is only good for 4 w/ gear. It’s a good quality tent. Will hold up to backcountry usage. Weighs about 18 lbs. but most of the weight is the poles so the weight can be easily divided among group. I picked mine up for $200! Feel free to e-mail with any questions you may have. Later!

Check out one of the recent issues of Consumer Reports. They reviewed several tents. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Has anyone a recommendation for a 3 season 3-4 person tent with a cost >of less than $250?

Hello Patrick, We have a "Gander Mountain Tent" on our site which sleeps 5 or 6 for $200.  I don’t know much about this tent and it might be larger than you’re looking for but sometimes the extra space can be a bonus (and you can’t beat the price ;-) Good luck finding your tent. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Has anyone a recommendation for a 3 season 3-4 person tent with a cost > of less than $250?

We are very happy with a pair of LL BEAN "Woodlands-4s" that we bought this year (12 nights in them so far). We have one for my wife and I and one for the 2 girls. They are 4 person tents but we wanted room for gear and the girls wanted some independence ( we don’t mind the privacy either!). They will take 4 people with minimal gear for a quick one nighter. We’ve taken on some pretty heavy rain so far and survived nicely, also they are a snap to setup and have a real solid feel. The latest catalog price is $239. Be sure to visit my camping page off of the home page listed below and look for "Tent Topics". Happy camping. — Regards, Pete E-mail… Visit my home page at…… http://www.gwi.net/~spectrum Even if you’re on the right track you’ll get run over if you just sit there. Pat, You can’t go wrong for $250.  We just got a Kelty 6 person dome tent from Costco for $150.  It is a bit difficult to erect, however, it is BIG!!.  It is well ventilated, fairly well designed, and you cana’t beat the price.  Target has tents for less, but what a zoo!  Have fun. The June 1997 issue of consumer reports ranked the LL Bean Dome # 6 (at $230) as their top choice in large dome tents. I tried to pick one up in Freeport last week and was informed that they are out-of-stock. They expect to have a new shipment in early August. (They were also out of their Acadia Model #6 tent.) Second in ranking was the Eureka Sunrise 9 ($209.99 from Campmor) REI has a model called the REI Camp Dome 6 at $249. It was not rated ny Consumer Reports. Does anyone have any experience with this tent?
