New Hampshire Camping (no RVs)
Question:
> I would highly recommend Pawtuckaway state park (They have a web site).
Hmmm…. The web site says "The 190-site campground includes 171 sites by reservation only; 4 for youth group reservations; and 10 for first-come/first-served campers." What about the remaining 5? — to respond, change "spamless.invalid" to "optonline.net" Please post replies, unless they are off-topic.

They’re for people who bring beer for the ranger.

There are many reservation and show-and-go sites within the White Mountain National Forest that would meet your requirements. There are also many NH State Parks with basic campgrounds as well. While none of these ban RVs, they do not have any hook-ups for them either. I would highly recommend Pawtuckaway state park (They have a web site). Iv’e been living in new hampshire all my life and never been their until this past summer. Never been in the campground but heard it was great. The best thing about it that I liked was the hiking, there are trails all over the place, some simple for the kids and others for the more experienced. The one thing I liked the most was the boulders, some as high as 30 plus feet and all over the place. There are also plenty of ledges their for the more adventured. One day while I was there, they were having rock climbing classes, pretty fun to watch. Good luck in your search. Tim

I’m looking for suggestions for places to do some camping in New Hampshire over the next few weeks. Ideally, it would be close to some good, reasonably challenging day hikes, free of RVs, and be at least somewhat remote. But not so remote that I can’t drive to within a short walk of the site. Similar to what Mt. Greylock, in western Mass, offers. I did a little digging on the web, and found a whole slew of campgrounds that have websites, but most of them appear to be crowded, family style camping, more like a summer camp. We would just like a quiet place to setup a tent and hangout by the campfire. Oh, and I’d prefer to not go as far as the Great North Woods. Thanks for any suggestions! -Gary — remove x’s from address for email
