Tent camping on the northeast coastline
Question:
Your living in a fantasy world…. Especiallly in the NE (the highest population concentration in the country, btw) and especially this year, when people do not want to fly to far away destinations). Unfortunately, the pictures in the tent catalogs of tents pitched on a secluded beach with the ocean a stones throw away are certainly not the norm (unless it’s on private property). Even campsites at a beach (I can think of Hammonasset SP in CT) are not actually "On the Beach" but in a developed camping area. The best I’ve ever found was a campsite of maybe 10 sites overlooking the Ocean in Cape Breton Highlands NP in Nova Scotia (not exactly the North East). Anything that desireable is sure to get booked early, but if your flexible, there are always cancellations. Anyone know of any secluded overnight tent camping sites (privately owned areas are welcome, but I’m not interested in sleeping next to RV’s) on or close to a northeast coastline? (New Jersey included) Ideally, I’d love to pitch my tent on the beach and have an open fire, but I can’t seem to find anywhere that lets you do this on the northeastern coastline. Specifically I’m looking to the Rhode Island, Mass area. And if it’s not too much trouble, post the phone number where I could call to make reservations if necessary. Thanks so much, All my best, Blake Harjes

I don’t know about open fires, but here’s some info on the Boston Harbor Islands. http://www.state.ma.us/dem/parks/bhis.htm –Al
