Hi, I live in Las Vegas and about an hour north and east of town is: Valley of Fire State Park – (www.state.nv.us/stparks/vf.htm) If you are going further into Utah then: Zion National Park – (www.nps.gov/zion/) and Bryce Canyon National Park – (www.nps.gov/brca/) Bryce and Zion are cold in the winter. In Arizona the south rim of the Grand Canyon (www.nps.gov/grca/) comes to mind. I hope you have a great time. Joanne

The following two site might be helpful in your search. Arizona being in the southwestern part of the U.S. attracts the "snowbirds" (people from the north) every winter so you should find a LOT of campground facilities open even in the middle of winter. Northern part of the state and Utah could be a different story in some areas. Las Vegas is a fantastic city with a lot to see and do. Been to many of the major places in Arizona dn Utah and love both states. Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon are must see places. (IMHO) http://www.arizonaguide.com/home.asp http://www.az.blm.gov/fr_outrec.htm http://www.trailerlife.com/ http://www.desertdutch.org (free camping sites in the west listed) Good luck with the trip. Should be fun. Try the tourism sites for each state. If they’re like my state, they’re not really set up to entice campers, but they can give you clues. Then find the department of natural resources for each state and check there for state forest and park sites. Then do the thing foreigners sometimes don’t think about, and find a weather / climate page and find out what the expected weather / general climate is in the exact locales you’re choosing. Even 10 miles can make a big difference if some of those miles include altitude. When you get to Vegas, look up http://www.wunderground.com and see what the immediate predictions are for the locales you’ve chosen. You don’t want to try to drive into a storm that’s dumping a couple of feet of snow on your chosen site. Nor do you want to try to drive out of it after. — rbc: vixen Fairly harmless Hit reply to email. Though I’m very slow to respond. http://www.visi.com/~cyli

yes, I know what you mean ;-) this is the 3rd time I ‘ll come to this place …. (usually in Summer) I’m living in Grenoble, France and I used to drive on snowy roads in winter with my 4×4 , and you are right when thinking I don’t wish to get snow when driving a rented van :)) So I ‘ll follow up your advises ( hoping I ‘ll get some sun ) cheers jp
