Knobstone Trails
Question:
Two of our Boy Scout patrols will be hiking and camping at Knobstone Trails in Indiana this summer. I would like to hear of your experiences on these trails. Their information says that water sources may be scarce. Also, camping is allowed throughout the park. Any pointers? Please respond here, or e-mail me Thanks in advance.

yes – water is a problem. There was an article in Indiana Outdoors mag recently- a DNR publication. Also, the DNR used to have a map, I think maybe they still do. Search yahoo- Indiana Dept Nat Resc. Also- there is a trail down that way the MTB riders are calling the Knobstone. Make sure you get on the REAL knobstone. -Dan

We recently took 2 Boy Scout patrols to the KT. The trails were in great condition and well marked. We started from the North and worked approximately 1/2-way South. There was not much flat terrain. I’d estimate the average hill as approximately 100-125 feet. Up-and-down and up-and-down. We cached water at various trail heads, which worked well as surface water was scarce. I would recommend the KT for a nice adventure. Realize that for every 1 linear mile on the map we hiked 1.5 miles. Jeff
