Sydney Central YHA

Question:

Hi, On the website for the Sydney Central YHA it says … "While everyone brings their own towel, blankets, duvets, pillows are provided at all YHAs. Sheets are included in the overnight price in all but our Wilderness hostels. For these, bring your own sleeping sheet. We prefer to keep our hostels bed bug free, so sleeping bags aren’t welcome." From [http://www.yha.com.au/australia/hostels_work.cfm]. I’m a little confused by their punctuation. Can anyone whose stayed here, or in any other Australian YHA’s, tell me if blankets, duvets and pillows are provided at YHA’s? With where the commas are, it could read as though they just provide pillows. Any Help Appreciated. Thanks, Michael

It means that they provide everything except a towel, and in the case of Wilderness hostels, a sleeping sheet. Tom

Whilst the punctuation could be a bit better, I think it’s quite clear that for the Central YHA you will get you will get sheets, blanket, duvet and pillow – but not a towel.  As it says, sleeping bags aren’t welcome. For wilderness hostels (I think it’s obvious Sydney Central doesn’t fall into that category) you will have to bring both a towel and sheets. I recollect that a lightweight linen sleeping bag insert was the way to go for backpackers staying in van parks, cabins etc rather than carrying around two separate sheets.  You can readily buy these in camping stores and discount stores such as K-mart, Big W etc. Hope you enjoy your visit from Ireland, we’ve plenty of people of Irish descent here, they made up a good proportion of our convict and bushranger population!
