Camping at Lowe's Motor Speedway
Question:
Does anyone have any experience with camping at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, NC? We have tickets to the Coca-Cola 600 and were thinking about tent camping there. When I went up to their website, I noticed they have a camping area called "Fleetwood RV Camping Resort" and then there is another area on the map on the backside of the track called "Coleman Camping". There are also other areas "Peninsula Camping" and camping inside the track (I don’t think I would like that though). I haven’t called yet to see if there are even any spots left, but wanted to be prepared to pick a spot if there were still some open. Any insight (i.e., it’s fun, it stinks, this area is best, don’t camp in this area) would be extremely helpful. Noise doesn’t bother us much, so that is not really an issue. Thanks! Kristi

If you don’t have to be right at the Speedway, I’d suggest looking into the Uwharrie Nat’l Forest/Morrow Mtn. SP/Badin Lake area. Many nice campgrounds, and a nice area. Probably an hour or so away.

LOL! An hour away from a NASCAR race is about 800 feet, on a Sunday afternoon!

I went to the 1997 Coca Cola 600 and it was a great time. We tent camped outside of turns 1 and 2. Genrally the tents and rv’s camp in the same areas all though it may have changed, I think there is a gocart track were we camped now. Most of the tracks that I have been to are first come first serve. Thats the way Charlette (I still can’t bring myself to call it Lowes) was in 1997. All though at Michigan you had to prepay and they had a designated spot for you. You will have a good time there as there is a lot to see and do. Hendricks Motorsports is just a few miles away and is very impressive (this coming from a Gordon hater). About a half an hour down the highway is Mooresville, which houses quite a few teams shops. They really roll out the red carpet for race fans over those two weeks (for the Winston and the 600). Have fun and keep on going to the races!!!
