Slumberjack sleeping bags

Question:

| Then you shouldn’t place broken html links in your posts. Long URLs commonly get divided by a line break when posted in text format.

Response:

Then you shouldn’t place broken html links in your posts. I clicked on your html link. It took me to an index page which included a link to "sleeping bags". That link took me to a page where seven sleeping bags were rated. The comprehensive review and ranking of other sleeping bag reviews has potential, however. I’ll take a look at them. LH.

Whaaaaa?  Six or seven bags is "extensive expert sleeping bag reviews?" Do you work for this site? I got some closeout bags from Cabelas that are HUGE.  They are rated -15 degrees.  They were less than $100 for two of them with shipping included. I wonder how the "experts" would have rated my bags.  I didn’t see them in their survey.  I rate them excellent.  The "experts" probably wouldn’t have considered them because of their cost. I guess it all depends on who you ask.  Lots of good gear out there without And who are the "experts"?  Probably some bums in the back alley that were asked to use the bags and report back. I don’t know either bag, but I’d certainly recommend that you get one warmer than 25 F rating.  Bag makers fudge by about 15 degrees.  They use the figure that will keep you from having hypothermia, not the temp that will keep you warm and happily sleeping.  Depends on where you’re fall (or spring) camping.  In MN I’ve never intended to be out when the night temps got into the low 40s F.  However, I’ve awakened to frost and been glad I had a warm bag.  My most recent one was a 0 F Coleman semi-mummy that kept me nicely at that temp not even zipped up. For car camping, I recommend a very warm bag, however heavy it may be. And good padding.  That’s what I got my Coleman for (and canoe camping, where you can carry everything.) and it’s good.  For backpacking, I’d have no recommendation at all, except as warm as you can stand to carry the weight of.

I agree that there are many inexpensive, unreviewd bags that will serve people wonderfully. I still think there is value in checking out unbiased reviews by neutral parties, especially if they test without reading the product manufacturer’s literature (PR).  I feel they are apt to be able to give you some insight that could be useful. For example, there are bags with liners that are "sticky" to some people.  I bought one of these bags.  The material felt fine against my skin in the store.  I discovered the "stickiness" too late–out camping where I had no choice but to use the bag.  A friend tried it did not experience the same sensation, so I thought it was just me.  I lent the bag to my brother for his six month trip around Europe and Asia.  When he returned, I couldn’t give him the bag.  He disliked the liner, but being poor, had endured it for 6 months. Later, I read reviews and noted that others had identified the same issue. If only I had known about their experiences sooner. Jeff Jeff Harper jeff#doplay.com

| No offense intended, Jeff, but what a cheesy comparison of sleeping bags on | that website. The only evaluated ‘7′ bags! | | Robert- | I have two Slumberjack sleeping bags that I bought a few years ago. Sorry I | can’t tell you which models I have by name, but they are both modified mummy | bags with synthetic fills, rated to (IIRC) 15 degrees F. I have been very | pleased with their performance and the overall quality seems good. They were | reasonably priced (on sale, about $90).
