weeds, weeds, weeds…
Question:
Got back into fishing local ponds in Massachusetts this year. Just about every lake I fish is just clogged with weeds making fishing just about any lure difficult. I’ve used weedless worms amd a weedless spoon with some success – but even these get hung up all the time. Any suggestions?

If weedless spoons are getting hung up, trying to fish the weeds is probably futile. What you might want to do instead is use a rake. This will sound a bit silly, but consider that bass and many other fish relate to edges. Assuming you are on a boat of some kind, find areas in the pond/lake that look like they should hold fish and remove the weeds from those areas with the rake. Give yourself a nice casting spot and a channel back to the boat. Do this in several sports on the lake. By the time you finish your last spot, the first spot should be loaded up with fish. If you are shore bound, get a little wet and make a channel out as far as you can wade. If you rake it, the fish will come. Check your local regulations, this may not be legal in all areas. Dave A

fantastic tip i learned recently. get a 1 ounce bullet weight(or what ever will penetrate). peg it. pitch it right into the heaviest of cover. best is mats next to pads. make sure it gets thru the mats. most of the time the fish slam it and i mean slam it as soon as it gets thru. it is hard and tedious but when the fish slam it hold on!!! you will constantly be taking gook off of your bait….part of the fun. in the plymouth area i have the best luck on power hawgs and brush hogs in green. hope this helps, Brian
